So when we stay in California we are always so lucky to be able to stay with Grandpa and Grandma Quaife. We love their little home and always getting to see Aunt Jeanette. Isn't it cute? And it's tucked in just the quietest quaint neighborhood in Long Beach.
Saturday morning we headed to the LA Zoo because Mom discovered our zoo membership at Hogle Zoo got us 50% off tickets!
The LA Zoo is much bigger and has some neat animals. We got to see baby chimpanzees and decided that they are Iva's spirit animal since they tend to spin wherever they go.
The LA zoo also has Asian elephants as opposed to African elephants and they actually have a male!
Here we are checking out the baby hippo. It was over a year ago that apparently the keepers walked out to their hippo enclosure and discovered a baby! They had just started realizing their female was acting different and boom! Baby!
We found a fabulous playground in the shade to eat lunch!
This was actually Mom and Dad's anniversary day and Mom thinks that a trip to the zoo was a great present. She and Daddy loved being silly with us.
Many years ago, okay maybe four years ago, possibly three, we visited the LA zoo and Cara was in love with kangaroos. Mom and Dad have such fond memories of her using the sign for kangaroo and just chanting "kangawoo, kangawoo"! So of course she loved seeing them again. The bonus for her was that the koalas are actually kept in the same enclosure. Both animals are extremely hard to see in these pictures but we know they are there!
After our sweaty morning at the zoo, we decided to go get much cheaper ice cream at a McDonald's that was literally five minutes away. Unfortunately, home was thirty minutes away and it was LA evening traffic and that five minute detour ended up costing us about 15 minutes because Siri on mom's phone was having trouble figuring out WHICH freeway we were on and kept sending us in circles. We did eventually make it back to the house and of course we hopped in the jacuzzi.
We were pretty tuckered out after the activities over the last 36 hours so we laid on the bed together and watched a movie while Mom and Dad watched the beginning of the Olympics!
Sunday we knew we would be heading home and we decided to first wear ourselves out at yet another beach we have not stopped at before. Daddy ran along the boardwalk and we tried to be brave enough to get in the water. When you get to the beach at about 9 am, it is really quite cloudy still!
We eventually decided the sand was the better option while it was cloudy.
Then the clouds broke and we played in the water...mostly to wash off the sand. We had to take silly photos of course!
We get along so well. Mom only has to yell at us to stop fighting every so often.
We took the time to go back to Grandma's and shower before heading out which provided a great opportunity to take a photo with Grandma and Grandpa! We were all showered and dressed and looking pretty!
We love visiting California. Hopefully we don't wait too long to go back!
